    If not using a Childtheme . Code added to header but if the theme gets updated will the code be lost and has to be re added?

    That’s the beauty of plugins: they work across themes. So as long as the plugin is active (and the theme is built properly w/ the standard hooks), then the tracking code always will be added to your pages.
