    Hi,

I’m new to CSS and started to change a few numbers in twenty ten but created a new problem.

    1) My sidebar is showing at the bottom of my second page. (this was the original demo page)
    https://www.marriageandthenewmonogamy.com/about/

Can someone help me figure out what number to change to get it to come back up to the side? A view of the original code may make it obvious which number I changed to create this problem, but I don’t know where to get the original code.

The original issue I had before I started messing with things is that on all pages:

    2) the “like my facebook page” widget is cutting off the last letter in the sidebar.

I would like to widen the sidebar on all pages so the whole title shows up.

If anyone can help me with these two column sizings, I would be incredibly grateful!

    Thanks,
    Ursala

  • Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme. Instead create a child theme for your changes. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

    Thanks esmi,

After doing some research, I think first I need to create a root install for wordpress to have it’s own directory. And then I need to make another directory to start the child theme. I know I need to access FTP files to make these changes.

Do I make the changes through Bluehost by creating a subdomain or creating an FTP Account, or do I make the changes through WordPress general settings?

For example, the child theme says to “Make a new directory in wp-content/themes, and name it twentyeleven-child (or anything you like).”
    I’m trying to figure out:
-where do I go to get to “wp-content/themes”
-If I need to create a root install first in order to have and access said files
-how to create a new directory after that

    thanks for your guidance.

Is there somewhere to find the original twenty ten code so I can compare and fix what I change?

No. Try reading that Codex section again. Yes – you will need to use FTP (or whatever file management application your host provides) to make the changes.

Download a basic Twenty Ten child theme

    Thanks Esmi,

I finally figured out the FTP child theme upload. I’m assuming that I add the code I want for the changes before I upload it. I think I can find the code online.
    ??
    I appreciate the guidance.
