[Theme: Twenty Eleven] How to select page formats

  • I am a rank newbie at wordpress, but have more than 35 years in IT, so feel I shouldn’t post dumb questions like this, but I need to do so.

    Reading the description of twentyeleven, I note

    widget support galore (sidebar, three footer areas, and a Showcase page widget area),

    . How do I make these happen?

    I’ve gone to the widget tab on the dashboard, and Showcase Sidebar, Footer Areas 1-3 are turned on. What steps do I need to take to make them active instead of just enabled? In the theme options, “Content on left” is enabled (if that makes any difference.)

  • To activate the footers, Admin > Appearance > Widgets, drag some widgets to the footer areas 1, 2 and three to show these.

    Showcase sidebar the same drag some widgets, I havent tried it but I think you create an empty page and just give it the ‘page template’ in the right options of showcase!

    Thanks David. For the reading of others, it’s a bit more complicated, but it works. Before dragging the Widget to the footer area, you need to click on the down arrow on the right side of the footer you want to use, then drag the widget to the drop down box you just opened.

    I wasn’t able to get the sidebar to work using this technique, but it was the footers I really wanted to use.
