• Has any one shared the following dichotomy? On the one hand Ryans otherwise fantastic theme switcher will not work at all unless K******* is installed as a theme. On the other K******* does not contain the theme switcher. So people get logged out and are stuck in the default. Handy that.

So this is a Classic / Default thing . Well – assuming someone is using Classic as his code base – he gets set up – multiple themes – where is the bit that tells him he must not un install the default.?

There are days when I want to get a new blogging software because of the superiority complex of most people on the WordPress Forums. To clarify to JENN I tried to use themes I used in the 1.5 alpha stages with the theme switcher once 1.5 a€?the Stable Versiona€? was released. This only broke my presentations menu for a week and I was stuck looking at that piece of crap that is WP Default. I could not change it, I could not make it reload. All this from that piece of PHP called the style switcher. I had to totally delete WP off my server and reload a 1.5.1 alpha version to get it to cooperate. Then I take Stuarta€?s Gemini templates fixed up for 1.5 and it goes screwy again. I posted my errors to the forums twice and I got no help. NONE! I had to find a workaround all by myself.

I have also had problems with the theme switcher..I installed it, and checked out my site and there were the avaliable themes..However, after changing themes, I was unable to swap back..(so I had to deactivate the plug-in) for me, this happens using dropdown or list style..
    Any ideas why?
I have three themes installed..(classic, default and soothe)

    Aha Dawg!

That’s why I can only change once, right?
I must add the call to each theme?

If dawg is correct, then it appears that people aren’t realizing that you have to put the code for the theme-switcher on EACH index page of each theme. As for superiority complex, I was the one a few months back who couldn’t even get into her own site to fix a password goof, so I don’t know where that came from. The Upgrade rules are very clear in saying that 1.2 styles won’t work. I have no idea what nightlies are, but to say that the theme-switcher won’t work without certain themes is just plain untrue.

and to goodsnake no one forced you to look at default for one week, all you had to do is de-activate the plug-in and select the correct presentation, hmm?? two mouse clicks does not a week make!

Yes to baart that will get your theme working right.

No dawg. It is true for any theme to run the meta needs to be set up correctly. All my themes run fine thankyou. Until I uninstall Kubrick. And I do speak with some experience on this issue.

Take the meta from either kubrick/classic add it to your theme css and viola!

Add a third voice for no defaults on server but theme switcher hums along just fine…. in fact, neither the default theme nor the wpclassic theme were ever uploaded for this install. The only place I’ve ever had trouble with the switcher was where I tried to use a 1.2 style without realizing it.

And yes, you absolutely must have the call to the switcher on every theme’s index.php or sidebar.php or wherever you want the selector to appear. It would be nice if that sort of functionality could somehow be made “global”….

[Edit: and Root’s posts make me wonder…. there’s a couple of people having a problem viewing themes period…. maybe they haven’t the defaults installed? Root does know whereof he speaks normally, so the fact that there are a small percentage of us with a different experience does NOT mean he hasn’t a clue, y’know? So I’m off to check on that other problem….]

The point is it is no good people repeating that 1.2 wont work. They do just fine if you follow the protocol for upgrading all your files. BUT is this a side effect ?
Should we be adding something else? But I do know this. I am fed up with installing and uninstalling the default.

That’s what’s so strange, m’friend. I haven’t “installed and uninstalled the default” even once. I wonder what’s different about our setups? It can’t be the distro….

I am on 1.5 standard. Nothing fancy.
