• Hi! I’m using wordpress just since 1 month, and it was a great experience. I have my blog with theme Retreat v2.2.2 by WooThemes. The margins of the theme are very concentrated and since the paragraphs width is mall and images’s width shrinks. I tried searching on net and trying editing style.css but it didn’t work for me :/ BTW here’s my blog – https://www.dev2day.x10.mx Any suggestions?

  • It may be just me, but I always upload images cropped to the size they will be on the page. In your page, your image is being treated like this:

    587px × 551px (scaled to 400px × 551px)

    … according to FireFox.

So I’d scale the image to 400px x 375px in the GIMP or whatever, and upload it over the existing one. It should them display just fine and be marginally quicker to upload as well.

No, the problem is different…While editing the image seems fine but due to margins on the site the images seems to be shrinked :/

    *bump*

Isn’t that because it’s being displayed as a thumbnail? Thumbnails are displayed at a fixed size, as determined by the settings, so they can be distorted if their aspect ratio is not the same as that set.

Other image types (small, medium, large) are scaled to within a set of boundaries (in the same settings). Images set to display full size, do just that.

Whatever you set whilst editing is not relevant (I think). WP will display the image according to its settings: not according to whatever size changes have been attempted in the editor.

So can’t the settings changed and they aren’t thumbnails as you can see and that’s what I’m asking…I need to increase the boundaries :/

Yes. Dashboard –> Settings –> Media.

How can I see it’s not a thumbnail? I don’t know what size you’ve set your thumbnails to be, or what checkbox you checked when you uploaded the image and put it into your post.

The other thing that occurs is that the uploaded image is about 25% too wide for the column in which it is displayed. The CSS (sensibly) specifies a maximum of 400px for the width of an image – since that’s the width of the column. So you’re getting 400px of width and since the height is not constrained, you’re getting a distorted image.

So, as I said at the start, I’d scale the image before uploading it. At least you’ll be able to keep the aspect ratio that way.

OK thanks for your advise…So it means the columns cannot be changed…
