  • Are you aware there’s a horizontal scroll in Opera 9.26 and IE6 at 1024×768? (Not at home so can’t check FF or IE7.)

    I am now! But as it isn’t a fluid theme is there a fix?

    It’s not fluid at all. It’s fixed:

    #container {
            margin: 0px auto 0px;
    	padding: 0px;
    	 background:#191919;
    	 color:#333;
    	 border: 2px solid #4d4d4d;
            width:1120px;

    }

    I said it wasn’t fluid

    quote
    as it isn’t a fluid theme

    I think that’s what 4k meant: “It’s not fluid (i.e., it’s fixed)” but it was confusing because in the same question she (I think she’s a she) asked, “IS there a fix?”

    So she’s apparently thinking since it’s not fluid, it can’t be repaired.

    Oh, she beat me to the punch.

    I misread you. SORRY! Well the fix is to design for a 1024×768 minimum resolution, which means your container width should be about 990px. So what I pointed out to you in your stylesheet is STILL RELEVANT if you want the horizontal scroll to go away.

    Oh, and you’ll also then need to adjust the width in the #right division as well.

    The web design list that I belong to recently had a discussion about the issue of increasingly wide displays and what the heck IS the minimum width we should design for. Long gone are the days of 800×600, and 1024×768 probably won’t be far behind. But when you consider that a lot of folks surf with their browsers NOT in full size, it still makes sense to consider 1024×768.

    You may wish to join the list, or at least browse the site….

    awesome! thanks

    Well only my second theme so still learning ??

    I did design a 920px wide version of the theme too, so maybe I should release that as well.

    Sounds like a great idea! Good luck. Theming can be addicting. (Ask me how I know this!)

    just to weigh in on the widescreen thing – I’ve been a widescreen user since widescreens were so unusual only 2 video cards supported them.

    I can quite safely say that most widescreen users don’t use maximised windows when browsing – but even so, it’s always better to use a centered fixed-width layout, than to do like the wordpress 2.5 admin panel, and push your constrained design to the left.

    for shame wordpress gurus.

    I use a wide screen both at home and at work, and surf w/ maximized windows.

    your honor, I’d like to call my list of expert witnesses to the stand.

    let the record show that I’m not surprised that Whoo isn’t one of the ‘most’ ??

    Hey! I was so excited when I got this, I spent days looking at all the web sites I could — all wide ?? Ive never stopped!

    On topic though, it is a bit tricky designing at 1440×900. I end up having to resize a lot.
