    Hi

Have a curious issue. My wife wants to start up her own blog but until she is sure she will like this she doesn’t want to go spending money on paid hosting and URL and such. So while she is testing the waters I thought to set up a free website for her and install wordpress and such.

Install itself went fine and wordpress was up and working.

I then tried to install a theme she liked but it rejected it. I even tried another theme and same error.

After talking with a friend of mine whose into websites she and I both think it is the free host maybe.

Typically the root folder is WWW but in my wifes case the default folder is also the user name rather then WWW. So the theme is looking for the files like this

    WWW/userID.mywebcommunity.org/index.php

    rather then simply

    userID.mywebcommunity.org/index.php

Since it seems to be looking for WWW as the root rather then a user ID is there an easy way to edit the theme to look in the right spot.

The error message references the functions.php in the theme’s folder.

    Thoughts on this?!?!?

    Dave

Very likely the host – free hosting is often problematic. If you want a free WordPress site, I’d suggest you look at WordPress.COM

problem with wordpress.com is no custom themes and no monetization of blogs

True enough. Many good hosting companies do offer a free trial period so maybe look for that.

My other concern is being this is a theme I downloaded if there is a coding issue in the functions.php file but being I am new to wordpress I would not have a clue where to start looking but seems this is a fairly common issue and sometimes is a missing { or extra code here and that that isn’t needed but unsure.

Where did you get it – you may want to read this if it was not from this site (WP.org).

Now question for you. I have never customized wordpress before on my own. But i have done forums and such in the past.

Being I do have all the image files for this theme how hard would it be for me to do my own custom skin using the image files in the admin area?

I’m not familiar with that particular site, but the article above applies. It also appears their themes are not released under the GPL license – which is not in keeping with WP philosophy or policy. I’d really suggest you use a theme from the repository on this site – they are of known good quality and comply with WP standards. They can be modified to look anyway you like. In case it’s relevant, these forums only support themes from this site.

problem is I could not find any decent Japanese geared themes. Maybe I missed but….

Re your last post, in general, it’s not hard but there is a learning curve. But there are lots of tutorials out there, as well as videos, books, etc. Plus the Codex – here:

We’re cross posting, but re: Japanese – you can make any theme look however you want. You don’t need a certain style or type – that’s part of the beauty of WP :)!

right was just saying as could not find a decent japanese theme in the list here reason I was trying the theme I did find as was a nice looking Japanese theme. Might have to just do it myself using the images and such. Will have a look at the page above

    Thanks
