Theme preview gives session expired screen

  • At every attempt to live preview a theme (any theme) from within the admin area, I get a ‘session expired, log in screen’ I login (which should not be necessary) and the message is for a successful login, then the login window continues to appear in the preview area.

    No matter what I do, I cannot get past this and in the end the only way out is to cancel. Not only that, but I cannot even see my site directly without it being a mishmash of themes. I have cleared the cache etc, and have never had this sort of problem before in all the years I have been using WordPress.
