Theme/Plugin Updates

I have four WP websites that use the same theme and the same three plugins. All four sites are located at the same host. When there is an update to a plugin and/or the theme, the updates do not arrive at the dashboard at the same time.
This week, there was an update that corrupted the websites. An update was sent yesterday to repair the problem. Three of my websites are now fixed. The update has not yet arrived in the dashboard for the fourth site.
Why does this happen? I see it with both free and paid products. It seems that when an update is sent out, it should arrive at the same time (or within a short period of time) to all four sites.
