[Theme: Origin] Can't get child theme to work with Origin

I’m using Origin as a theme and was attempting to change a little of the css through a child code. I used a suggestion posted in the Origin support group and discovered that no matter what I do, using a child theme seems to break the entire blog. I’ve left the blog broken so you can see what happens:

I’ve used child themes before but never had this happen. I followed the usual instructions, creating a style.css and adding the index.php (only because the solution I mentioned above required it).

I THINK, but do not know for sure, that the problem is the style.css doesn’t list a template. Is that the problem? Any ideas?
