• Hello,

The Widget link and Theme Options links are missing.

I have two websites, on seperate hosts. I clean installed the same version of WordPress 3.9.1 on both domains. The databases on both sites are MySQL.

I had no problems on one of my sites, while the other site is driving me crazy. Except from hosting servers, they are identically the same. Same database, same theme, same everything.

I believe it has nothing to do with WP version, since i installed an older version also. And the other one working also uses WP 3.9.1

I tried every possible solution. But i am missing something here. My client is waiting for me, and i am still struggling.

It may be related with the update of WordPress database. I dunno.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • What theme are you using? Kindly select default theme and check once.

Default themes work. Twenty Fourteen and the others. There is no problem in that.

But the issue here is, this theme, IS Working on the other domain.

I even copied the working database.

BTW, Thank you #The Grey Parrots.

Another issue, i just remember is, when i publish a page, it shows nothing. One blank page, that’s all.

Long story short, this theme is paralyzed. But why, it is working properly on the other domain, is a great mystery ??

    I am literally going mad.

Have you checked for differences in .htaccess.

Thank you for your reply, but i don’t know how to access the .htaccess

I am not a pro, sadly, i am just doing it part time.

I’m about ready to pull my hair out, too!!! I create pages but they are not showing up in the menu across the top in the Twenty Twelve theme. I tried other themes and can’t get anything to work there either. I picked up blogspot.com in no time but WordPress is more complicated and I can’t get my website up and running. I’m trying to create “Home” as the front page and 6 other pages in the top menu. Then I will add to each of those pages as time goes by. My website is: https://joyandme.com/ Even the sample page is gone. I tried replacing it with my text and lost all menu options…and I am completely lost/baffled/frazzled trying to get this up and running TODAY. Can anyone help???

I don’t want to add any posts because I want to add them under the specific pages which I can’t get to come up I have everything as draft right now because I don’t want incomplete pages with broken links showing.

.htaccess is a hidden file that is located in the root directory of your WordPress install. You will need to use your host’s file manager or FTP to get at it. Look for a setting that allows you to see hidden files. It might not be that at all but you say everything else is the same so see if there are any differences in the two .htaccess files. Use a plain text editor. The system should work without one, so just rename it and see if it fixes your problem. If so, go to the Admin page / Settings / Permalinks, make you choice and Save changes. WP should make a new .htaccess automatically.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

I am going to look for it, and post the differences.

I located .htaccess file on the working server. But the one that is not functioning, does not create an .htaccess file, even when i update permalink settings.

There is no .htaccess file. As i mentioned before, default themes work. But besides those 3 default themes, others that i uploaded, does not work at all.

BTW, after i changed theme, defaults do not create .htaccess file either.

I don’t think that it is because of file and folder permissions, since i changed them too.

I should have said that .htaccess is used on Apache servers. I have assumed, perhaps wrongly, that your host is using Apache?

Can you create an empty .htaccess with 644 permissions. WP will write it if it can or give the code so you can write it.

Are you testing using the default permalink settings. It would be a first step to get WP working with that setting.

Have you checked you are using the latest version of your theme. With some themes it is not enough to assume that because there is no update notice, there is no update. Best to check version numbers at the theme’s homepage.

Another thing to try, if you have not done so, is on Chrome, bring up the offending page, press control-shift-J and look at the console tab. Any javascript file-not-founds will be highlighted in red.

You may well have done these things but I’m running low on ideas!

Yes, that’s right. I tried almost everything.

I am working on apache server. This is my 5th domain on this very server.
This is the first time i encountered such a problem.

I created an empty .htaccess, but wordpress does nothing. Still blank.

    Theme is up to date.

Opening console via Chrome was the first thing i did. And what i saw there was just an emptiness. Not only the page, but the generated code was also blank.

    Elements : <html><head></head><body></body></html>
    Console : >

    Strange isn’t it.

I guess i will change host. Since it is very well functioning on another server.

I really appreciate your interest. I respect that.

I changed host, and everything is fine now. I think the problem was with the server.
