I am new to WordPress and I know I need to have a child theme in order to keep my style changes from being wiped out when I update the theme. Does this mean I shouldn’t use the Theme editor? If I make changes through the theme editor (and my child theme activated), will these be overruled? I don’t think this is the case, but I’d rather be safe than sorry!

You can use this if you want to. The changes have been done here will be applied for the respective file being edited. I’d highly recommend you to do editing your child theme locally in your computer, it’s safer. You could undo the changes quickly once you made an error.

If you made an critical error while editing via the theme editor, you probably can’t access your site unless you fix that error.

Yes, I am using a staging copy of my site for that purpose. Editing without the theme editor, and not knowing anything about PHP seems too daunting at this moment! Maybe when I get more familiar.

    Thank you very much!
