• I have a front page with three “theme options” columns, each of which link to a page within my website (actually my wife’s). Each page has a featured image. Two columns correctly display the featured image on the home page. One of them, “training you to report” – loses the image when the page is clicked. Only the alt text displays. The middle column displays the image on the home page and correctly displays it when the page is loaded. The third, “helping you to report” only displays the alt test on the home page and does the same when it is clicked.

I have deleted and reloaded these images from the media library multiple times, have turned the featured image on and off, have deactivated plugins, all to no avail. Please advise. The site worked correctly until a month or so ago. Perhaps the media library is corrupted. I can see all of the relevant images in the library, however.

FWIW, I just got one of the columns to work. I’ve been at this all day, but will keep trying. ??

FWIW, I checked the display on my phone and it was differently broken. On the phone the two outer columns display, while the center column does not. Several images on various posts are also broken.

Hi there, I’m seeing the featured images on all three when I click through to them on laptop and on my iPhone 6s Plus. The three pages look good and I see no issues on my phone or on my computer.

Are you still having issues with this? If so, let me know, and if you could take a screenshot and upload it to the media library, or to a file sharing service and post a link, it would be great.

Oh yeah, and which browser are you seeing that in, and have you tried a different browser to see if it is browser specific?

Thanks for your help. I continued to see problems in all three browsers (Chrome, Safari, & Firefox) even after refreshing and cleaning out my cache. My wife’s computer showed the same. The most frustrating part was not the errors, per se, but how they kept changing. For example, I could delete an image from the library, reload it with a different name, put it back on the page and everything would look fine. I would then look at on a different browser and a different image was then broken. I rebuilt and optimized the database – which I assume was the root of the problem, but to no avail. I then downloaded a backup – unfortunately somewhat out of date – and installed the site on my local computer. I found a few errors, but not the ones on the live site. I then uploaded the revised version to the live server and it seems to be mostly working. I say mostly because I could not get one image to work in a gallery, despite deleting and reloading it multiple times. I gave up and listed the items as a bulleted list and things seem to be OK.

Once again, thanks for you help.

Hmmm, I can’t reproduce this. Can you try installing this Regenerate Thumbnails plugin and have it regenerate the images and see if that helps?

    (@yscubamike)

I installed it and ran it. It may have helped. I’m not entirely sure because I haven’t tried to recreate the offending gallery. (It will be a few days until I can get to it.)

I do have this question, however. How is it that an image that appears to be properly loaded into the media library and displays on the post editing screen does not then appear on the browser screen? The post itself was properly updated and published. Screenshot 1 was done in Safari, 2 in Opera, whose cache had been previously cleared.

This used to be much more of a problem than it is today when switching themes, and the plugin I linked to got quite a workout. Let me know if you have any further issues. All new images you insert from this point forward should work just fine.

This may drive me mad. I had a few moments this morning and did the following: deleted an image from a post and the library, uploaded a new copy of the image, regenerated the thumbnail via Regenerate Thumbnails. I then added it back to the post (featured image) with the following results.

As seen from the wordpress editing program – Safari

Also as seen within the WordPress program. The image is not displaying.

The image as it appears in the media library.

But when I view in Opera, the image looks great on the slider, but is broken in the post.

    Image is broken in post.

As before, your help will be appreciated.

Is there a published page or post where you are seeing this that you have not corrected? If so, can you give me a link so that I can view it and see if I can see what you are seeing? Do you have the Jetpack installed, and by chance do you have Lazy Loading activated in that plugin? If so, could you try disabling that feature?

    Thread Starter YScubaMike

    (@yscubamike)

I do have Jetpack installed and I did have what they refer to as “Speed up images and photos” in Plugins>Installed Plugins>Settings turned on. I turned it off and – presto chango, mirabile dictu! – everything seems to work. Many thanks! I will let you know I have further problems, but I think (fingers crossed) things are working now.

    Thread Starter YScubaMike

    (@yscubamike)

Assuming this was/is the problem how can I update the cache (in the cloud, I assume) where Jetpack was trying to serve the photos – the links to which were broken? Correct me if I misunderstand how this works.

Hooray, glad that worked. The issue is within Jetpack itself, and the fix for this will be in the next version of the plugin. When that comes out and you update it, you should be able to switch back to speeding up images and photos and all will be good.

    Dear Sacredpath,

I’m having this problem with my IM News theme. The images did not appear on the front page.

This is this site I have the problem with https://naijaspectators.com/

Hi @ttsalam16, there is a dedicated IMNews theme support forum where you can post for help on that particular theme. This forum is for those using the Dara theme.
