• I have installed wordpress locally on my wamp server.
    This is just a local test server with wordpress 3.5.1

    I have got it working except for one thing. When I view the website from other devices\computers on my lan, I can see the website, but all of the theme elements (pictures, logos, fonts, etc..) do not load withit.

    So its like you see a white website with back words in aero type font but the nice theme\interface is not there.

    Why is this?

    do i need to enable something on apache?
    This is from a vanilla install of wordpress and wamp, with a new database.

  • Hi wordpressa,

    You are probably referencing your local ip address within the installation.

    How are you viewing the site externally? Have you added an A Name record to your domain to point to your local IP?

    Kind regards

    I am viewing the website from a computer that is hooked up on the same switch as the computer that is running wamp.

    So there is no external connection from the internet.

    I access the wordpress site which is installed on the wamp server by merely typing in the local ip address, because everything here is local.

    So when I do that, the wamp server homepage looks correct, but the wordpress site is in plain html.

    What urls are entered in settings -> General? I’m betting they contain either localhost or 127.0.0.1.

    I am away from the computer, but what should they contain?

    I don’t think I have changed any of that information, this is purely a clean\vanilla install of wordpress and therefore I have not changed those settings.

    Are we supposed to change the general settings from there?

    what should they contain

    A local domain name or ip address. One that will resolve within your local network. Every machine considers itself to be localhost or 127.0.0.1, so that never works as a url if you want to view the site from another machine.

    Are we supposed to change the general settings from there?

    I am so glad you asked that first! The answer is – no. See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this.

    This doesn’t work, I went ahead and changed the config file and added those two lines with the local ip address and now everything even from the computer that is hosting the wamp server sees wordpress in plain text.

    define(‘WP_HOME’,’192.168.1.143′);
    define(‘WP_SITEURL’,’192.168.1.143′);

    Also, the links are broken as well.

    I deleted those two lines and am back from where I started.

    When I visit the wamp server’s homepage, you get to see full content, but as soon as you click on wordpress, it becomes plain text.

    I assume that 192.168.1.143 is the address of the machine hosting WordPress, yes?

    Never mind, You ARE supposed to change it from the settings-general.

    Now it works…

    My only question now is what is the distinction between wordpress address and site address?
