Theme No Longer Working

    Hi –
    I just found out this morning from a reader that my blog theme is no longer working. the page simply displays text. going into the admin presentation tab, shows a blank square where the theme used to be.

    two things happened recently, maybe one of them caused this. (1) I upgraded to version 2.3.2 WordPress. (2) My host migrated servers, and it caused some of the permissions on wordpress files to be changed. i changed some of them in order to get comments, etc to work, but don’t know which files could possibly be causing the theme to not work.

  • When trying to load the stylesheet for your theme at the following address:

    https://mikegoldsworthy.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/fasttrack-widgets/style.css

    I am getting a Forbidden error and also a 404 error from the server. This would suggest that the server is not allowing it to serve your themes files.

    Could the permissions have changed? Maybe contact your hosting company?

    what should my permissions for that file be set at?

    I had it set to 777, and just tried 644.

    both seemed to keep giving me the same error

    If it is set to 777 then this means that the files can do anything so maybe that is not the problem.

    Try selecting a different theme (maybe back to the standard) and then see if that works.

    they all show up broken in my presentation tab. so it seems to be a problem with all of them.

    is there maybe a file that in some way grabs the images from them that could have the wrong permissions (i’m totally ignorant and just taking stabs in the dark)

    i think i’m going to try and re-upload the fasttrack style.css and see if that helps.

    new style.css didn’t change anything.

    different themes didn’t change anything either. even tried wordpress default

    Good idea.

    The screenshots on the homepage come from the screenshot image that is in your theme folder.

    Have you changed the name of the theme folder?

    i don’t think so.

    it should be wp-content/themes/

    right?

    got it!

    the wp-content folder had the wrong permissions.

    thanks for your help. it really helped me to figure out how to troubleshoot it. i really appreciate it.
