[Theme: Minamaze] Header doesn't redirect to home

    Ok, no doubt I tossed out a Home page link along with a bunch of other stuff I didn’t think I needed. But now, with the custom header image, it doesn’t redirect to the home page when I click on it. I have no page named Home in my Pages section either, if I needed it. So there is now way to get to Home from elsewhere in the website, except to go via the admin panel, which won’t happen when the site is live. How do I fix this? If the header cannot be made to behave, I am happy to simply have a little house icon in the menu bar, if I could figure out how to do that instead.

    Can’t you also add a Home menu item that points to the home page? Go to Appearance > Menus and add a Links menu item that points to your home page (if you don’t see a Links section, click on the Screen Options tab in the upper right corner and check Links).

    When you say you “tossed out” the home page link, did you edit the header.php file? Why don’t you download a copy of the theme, open up header.php in a text editor, and add back in the code for the home page link?

    You should also be warned that you shouldn’t edit theme files directly. Your changes will be overwritten the next time the theme is upgraded because of a feature enhancement, bug fix, or security patch. Instead, you should create a child theme and work off of copies of the files that you want to modify.

    Thank you! That worked.

    I did not know about changes reverting/disappearing when the theme is updated — good to know! I don’t know how to create a child theme.

    To create a child theme, just click the child theme link in my previous post and follow the directions. You’ll need to know how to create a subfolder and add files to it, though, either using an FTP client or your host’s control panel.
