• Hi there, Can anyone let me know if the following is possible with the MH Magazine theme please?

Selecting 2 sidebars to keep the homepage wide, making use of ‘Home 12’ widget section, but keeping the archive/post pages with 1 sidebar to allow for a wider content area.

While I prefer the homepage with ‘Home 12’ widget section, the posts/archive pages look too busy with 2 sidebars activated. With 1 sidebar activated the site homepage doesn’t look as good, and the width is too small…

If anyone has any suggestions or solutions that would be great,
    Many thanks,
    Mark.

    Hello again!

Is it possible to resize the site with MH Lite?

It is so wide to me. Also, I dont know I can do this using % of page.
Also it is clear to use width in percent for widgets.

    Hello whiteindian,

actually the MH Magazine lite theme is already quite narrow as it has a width of 980px which is not much nowadays in times of large HD screens.

The premium version of MH Magazine is wider and has a width of minimum 1080px – upto 1431px when there are two sidebars enabled.

However, if you are familiar with coding, you are of course free to modify the theme as you like. You could have a look at the stylesheet and also use tools like for example Firebug to inspect the elements on your site and modify them as you like.

If you want to increase the width properly, you would need to modify several elements within a child theme to make it work nicely across all widths and widget areas. Please also keep in mind that we can’t provide free support for theme customizations or custom development – thanks.

    Oh, too bad for me….

You have mentioned something about modern HD screens. Is there any table showing which fonts can be used for all types of screens and browsers?

I want to place plenty of thumbnails on the main site.
But what about child theme. Could I also make a regular backup of my theme? Or could I use plugin something like Custom CSS ?

If you cant help for free, you could only answer Yes or No. Then I could try to google the exact point of dillema. Thank you ??

In case you only apply minor CSS changes, a plugin for custom CSS code could be sufficient. For larger CSS customizations and changes beyond CSS it’s recommended to use a child theme – otherwise your changes will be lost after theme updates.

    Let’s try

    1. Make major changes to my style.css using theme editor.
    2. Make minor changes using Custom CSS plugin.
    3. Make child theme using ‘Child Theme Configurator’ plugin
    3. Swap to child theme

Making child theme means make a backup of major changes (style.css).
    Correct?

Child theme from ‘Child Theme Configurator’ contains:
    – style.css
    – functions.php

what about rtl.css – is it not needed?

    1. Make major changes to my style.css using theme editor.

No, you shouldn’t modify original theme files at all and the theme editor in the WordPress dashboard isn’t a good place for editing code. That’s what child themes or plugins for custom CSS are for.

Making child theme means make a backup of major changes (style.css).

Regarding the creating of a child theme, please see: Creating and Using Child Themes in WordPress.

what about rtl.css – is it not needed?

If your site is in right-to-left language, then you also need rtl.css of course, otherwise not.

Put it simply, I create ghost theme.

But now, when I got some changes in original theme, if I swap to child-theme: all the changess will be lost.
So I have to make any changes with child-theme, editing style.css, adding custom CSS code, and so on. I have to add all then plugins I have used before with original theme?

There is an update of MH Magazine Lite to 1.9.6

There so many settings in ‘Child Theme Configurator’ but I dont know if I could use it by default. I dont know how to make it safety with tutorial. I know that you cant tell me, but I think ‘Child Theme Configurator’ could be the best way.

    Hello,

Strange thing I ve made child theme. I made an upgrade of original MH Lite. Nothing wrong wth that. Only CSS was lost in original theme.

I could make almost every change in chil-theme and put it as default?
Also, I can add Custom CSS and other plugins in child mode.

Yes, that’s the purpose of a child theme.
