• Hi everybody,

I’m a long time Webcomic user and I have two comics on our website littlegreendog.com that use the older version of the plugin. This has worked fine for several years, but now I’m thinking of completely reworking our website and upgrading to Webcomic 5.

Back when I set up our current site, I had decided break out each of the comics to their own subdomains because I thought the plugin worked better with the ‘native’ Inkblot theme than it did in our main site’s theme, but now I want to dispense with the subdomains and fold the comics into the main website. It sounds like Webcomic 5 should make that a lot easier to do now.

So, I was wondering how other Webcomic users find the new theme integration feature in Webcomic 5, and which themes have been found to work well with it. I’m going to start experimenting with this myself tonight and will share anything interesting I learn here.

Thanks in advance for any helpful info and tips.

Huh. I just realized that our two Webcomic subdomains have been running with Webcomic 5.0.5, even though I don’t recall updating from Webcomic 4, and it seems to be running just fine.

Michael, WC5 is even working fine with that ‘odd’ comic/video hybrid episode of Streams that you helped me set up a couple of years ago. Just thought you’d like to hear that.

(Oh, and apparently our site is now running with PHP7. I’m not 100% sure about that because I see conflicting info about this in our CPanel settings, but WC5 does appear to be working.)

Well, for the moment anyway, this all seems to be good news to me. (Whew!) ??

I’m going check if WC5 works with our main website’s theme Awaken Pro. I’m thinking of switching to a different theme soon but I want to see how WC5 functions with our existing site before making the switch.

(FYI, as mentioned earlier, our subdomains are using the ‘native’ Inkblot theme, not Awaken Pro. My intention is to merge the comics into the main site and drop the subdomains/Inkblot altogether.)

I’ll post again when I have something new to report.

Thanks for the update @greenlaw; glad to know that everything is working pretty well (so far)! If you have any issues with Inkblot or Awaken Pro let me know (here or on the Discord or wherever) and we should be able to get them resolved.

    Hi Michael!

    Quick update:

I made a fresh local install of WordPress to experiment with, and I added Webcomic 5, Awaken Pro (our current theme,) and Arouse Pro (a theme we had considered switching to a while back.)

No matter what I tried, Webcomic 5 would not appear inside an Awaken Pro page. I’m guessing the two are incompatible. That’s okay; I don’t wish to spend a lot of time making this combo work since we’re going to switch to something else for our upcoming website reboot.

Next, I tried Webcomic 5 with Arouse Pro. I didn’t get to spend a lot of time on this but Webcomic 5 DOES appear to work with this theme. Curiously, The Arouse Pro theme is from the same developer as Awaken Pro. It is a newer theme so maybe it’s just better coded for modern WordPress in general.

So good news. I’m glad to see that, provided that the theme is compatible, Webcomic 5 will integrate easily and cleanly. Good work, Michael!

Well, except now I’m looking for a theme that looks good on desktop, tablet, and smartphone that’s also compatible with Webcomic 5. I’m not completely happy with how Arouse looks on iPhone but I’m sure I’ll find something I do like. (It’s always something, isn’t it?) ??

Anyway, my test tonight will be to see if I can reproduce the hybrid comic page you helped me with a couple of years ago with Webcomic 5 and Arouse Pro. Hopefully, that will be easy but, if not, I may need to ask your help again.

Will post again when I have anything new to report.
