Theme has .po file but translation is not working

  • Hi
    I’ve got a theme, which includes a default.po file in language folder.
    I’ve installed locotranslate plugin to begin translating theme.
    The thing is that when I’m gonna create the new language, I get this:

    I guess the theme is not correctly developed, therefore not linked to translations, because I’ve tried translating .po file directly with poEdit, renamed the file into es-ES.po/mo and the strings are not being show.

    Is there a way I should link theme to translations, so I don’t have to translate it directly into its sourcecode?

    PS: My WP is set to es-ES, tried alt. tools to generate .po/mo files, without luck
