    Hey Gang,

I’ve made my own child theme based on Gridiculous Pro. Nothing extreme, just a few PHP tweaks here and there and some styling changes. However, when I activate my theme I now see an invitation to update the parent theme to the same version that it already is.

Running the update does nothing except temporarily remove the update notification, which is back again on the next screen. The weird thing is, reverting to the parent theme in place of my child theme doesn’t get me an update notification, so I think it’s something in the way that WordPress is handling the child. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!
    Mark.

If you mean this commercial Gridiculous Pro theme then you’d need to ask the theme author on his site.

Part of what you paid for when you made that purchase was support and you may as well use that option. Commercial products are not supported in these forums.

The version of that theme that is supported here is not the “Pro” version.

    That was unhelpful.

I’m using the WordPress support option in the first instance as the use case under which this error occurred could equally apply to any theme, and as such I stand a far better chance of encountering another user with similar symptoms, and therefore a fix, by reporting it here.

If you maintain that the error I observed with WP’s update mechanism is down to the theme and not the platform then give me something which substantiates that.

Do you have the same issue on a default WP theme?

I haven’t made a child from the default WP theme.

No one asked if you had. Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme?

Thank you for your input and apologies for taking up your time.
