Theme formats – Twenty Fourteen

  • Twenty Fourteen theme offers formats down the side of edit pages, such as “Standard”, “Aside”, “Image” etc… What do these mean or what do they affect? I cannot see any difference.

  • Post formats are a way of describing the content of a post: Standard is a standard post, Aside is a shorter blog post more similar to a tweet, Image is for an image, etc. Twenty Fourteen doesn’t do anything special with post formats, but other themes can be coded to display post formats differently. For example, Twenty Thirteen gives some post formats different-colored backgrounds.
