    I am looking for a WordPress theme (free) which will have a gallery frontpage.

    I am planning on making a website for myself about photography.

    Let me know I i need to post more info etc.

    I suggest you look for a gallery plugin and theme separately. You are needlessly restricting your choices by looking at only integrated solutions. Putting a gallery on the front page of any theme may be as simple as [nice-gallery id="233"]
