• Hi,

I noticed depending on the selection I choose to serve retina images certain things stop working on my theme.

PictureFill – Search button and mega menu pagination stops working.
Retina.js – Mega menu stops working. No images load
Img-rewrite – Mega Menu not retina when you paginated to next items. Gtmetrix page speed is C
    retina-images – doesn’t work

PictureFill seems to be the best option as it loads retina images every time all over the site. The pagespeed is hardly affected. however the search functionality and pagination breaks.

    Can you have a look?

    I currently have Picturefill on.

    Thanks

    Hello,

For PictureFill, you should use caching on your server (I am pretty sure you have already) and then the speed is not affected.

The fact it doesn’t work with your theme correctly is a problem with your theme. Picturefill uses the proper implementation of Retina (for the future) and the theme should be able to handle it. I could look at it more and even fix it probably but the problem really comes from the theme. They should really fix on their side, rather than you or I hacking it ??

I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, I hear the same thing from the theme author. That it’s a plugin issue not a theme issue. So it seems I am stuck without a solution.

Seems like img rewrite works the best for my theme. Any advice on render blocking. Should I move your js processes to the bottom?

Haha, maybe you should switch theme. Most of the time, when there is an issue involving retina the theme devs are working on it pretty quick. I could fix his theme but it’s not really my position to do so… but yes, I could…

The JS to the bottom? Which? The IMG Rewrite doesn’t use any JS. It’s actually a good solution since it replaces the images directly, there is no need of anything and it works everywhere. However… it doesn’t work with caching.
