• Hi,

I’ve searched the forums but I can’t seem to find an easy to follow guide to making the stylesheets editable.

[ Moderator note: moved to Fixing WordPress. ]

A client has tasked me with changing their site (a custom theme /site built in India by the looks of it) – I need to edit the stylesheets to achieve what they want.

Within the Theme Editor, there is nowhere to save the changes I have made and this message appears below.

You need to make this file writable before you can save your changes. See the Codex for more information.

If someone could please provide me with the hopefully simple process required to change it so I can edit the stylesheets, that would be fantastic!

    Cheers
    Morro

    Thanks Steve for your reply.

Is it done through the web host?

Yes, file permissions are controlled at the host. You can change them via the command line (if available), FTP, or the hosting control panel.

As Steve said, you need to change the file permissions at the host.
The easiest way is using CPanel if available.
The file style.css needs to have write permission.
Most likely permissions are 444 and needs to be 644
