• this is my second install with wordpress. the first time, i could upload new themes and change anything i wanted. but now, i can not do that anymore. i can only upload themes, but i can’t. i see a notice saying, “If this file were writable you could edit it.”

    what does that mean? thank you

    It means you have the wrong permissions on the file to be able to edit it through the web interface. Which is perfectly fine and actually safer. Edit it on your own PC with a text editor then upload your changes manually, via FTP or what have you. It’s not hard.

    If you use Filezilla as an FTP client, it has the ability to download a file, open it in a text editor and let you edit it, then upload the changes. Very convenient for that sort of thing.
