This is more of a query about the behaviour of WordPress rather than a problem…

Yesterday I was copying across updates of 2x files that had been tested, index.php and single.php, but my ftp had a bit of a fit and said that I didn’t have permission to copy files, and then went on the delete the originals. So, I was stuck with no news pages (my site uses homepage.php as the homepage), but worse than that WordPress lost my custom theme and reverted me back to the default. Is this because index.php was missing from the folder?

    Thanks.

Yes. from what I recall, 3 files are needed in any theme – index.php, functions.php and style.css. Any theme that loses one of these files is classed as “broken” and automatically deactivated.

Cool, thought it would be that but just wanted to check. Thanks.
