My WordPress blog will be a members only site with pages that will have content and a video. There will only be pages. No posts. I do not want a navigation bar that goes across the top of the page because there will be too many pages (20+). I need a side bar where I can have as many page links as I want.

Will this theme work if I only want pages and page links in the sidebar?

  • Yes, this template can also be helpful to your project, but you would have to erase the top menu so that it looks just like you want it to.

The Desk Mess Mirrored theme would work very well for this. Your easiest method to accomplish the navigation goals you are describing is to simply create a new “Custom Menu” that has no items in it and use it in the “Top Menu” placeholder.

For the sidebar, simply create a second Custom Menu with the pages you wish to use, or possibly use the default “Pages” widget to list them.

OK great. I have created a new Custom Menu but how to I use it in the Top Menu placeholder?

@darrvar – On the same page you created the menu on you should see a “Themes Location” box. Use the drop-down selector to choose the (blank) custom menu you created.

There doesn’t seem to be a drop-down selector.

There is a message that says “The current theme does not natively support menus, but you can use the “Custom Menu” widget to add any menus you create here to the theme’s sidebar.”

Can you provide a link to your site? Custom Menu support has existed for several releases now. Which version of Desk Mess Mirrored are you using?

I figured it out. Thank you!
