    WP VERSION: 4.74
    Plug-ins: WooCommerce Version 3.0.5
: PrintAura WooCommerce Integration API Version 3.3.1
    :Jetpack Version 4.8.2
    iThemes Security Version 6.2.1

I am no longer able to see my child theme’s (Pretty Creative) CSS Stylesheet anywhere through WP dashboard. This changed last year some time but I wasn’t sure why, maybe a WP update.? It became an issue for me now as I wanted to customise the footer with the copyright info and then I realised I could not do it from my dashboard. It took me a while to work out how to do it via File Manager but if I want to change a few other little things I don’t want to struggle to do it that way. I want to do it from WP dashboard.

Under Appearance I have “Edit CSS” (as opposed to “Edit” like my child theme company has in their WP dashboard) which only restricts me to “Customising Additional CSS” Appearance > Customise also takes me to exactly the same, “Customising ADDITIONAL CSS”.

I can not access my child theme’s CSS stylesheet from my dashboard at all.
I contacted the child theme company and they took screenshots showing that under Appearance on their WP dasboard it says “EDIT” as opposed to my “Edit CSS” and their stylesheet is fully visibile unlike mine. They also They told me to contact my hosting company, ipage and see if they’d disabled CSS from my dashboard but they’ve assured me several times that they have not disabled anything after initially saying that it was my child theme preventing me from seeing the CSS Stylesheet but I know that’s not true because of the screenshots which I showed them.

This is what the child theme company said: “Your site does NOT offer an option to edit your CSS or any other files of the theme. This is NOT a theme issue – attached Screenshot (#1) shows the ability to edit the files in my dashboard. When I switched to a default WordPress theme, you also did NOT have the ability to edit the default theme’s files (see Screenshot #3) – confirming again that it’s NOT a theme issue that you can’t update your stylesheet; talk to your hosting company – it appears they have disabled the functionality (which is NOT uncommon – a lot of hosting companies don’t allow theme files to be updated via your dashboard).”

So it seems no one can help me and I’m new to all of this. Have been stuck for quite a while now. I googled my problem and saw some people added a line of code in config php, I tried that too and didn’t see a difference.

I disabled Jetpack and noticed that under Appearance there was no longer any Edit menu at all it disappeared. I tried disabling a few plug ins but apart from Jetpack nothing makes a difference when I re-activated Jetpack, “Edit CSS” became visible again. The only thing I didn’t deactivate was Woocommerce and Print Aura API that works with WooCommerce.

No one can tell me why my child theme stylesheet is not visible in my dashboard under Appearance. I installed iThemes Security after this problem occurred, I have disabled Soliloquay Slider and CSS Hero, too although those were added after this problem occurred too. My site is not published as I am adding things to the store and creating it. I did a full back up the other day and I’m now at the point of looking at changing hosting companies to see if my CSS stylesheet will reappear in WP dashboard. Finding it very frustrating to always be directed to “Customising Additional CSS”. I just want access to my theme’s CSS from the dashboard. I’ve been really stuck on this and unable to find a solution. Any idea what I should do? Change hosting companies?

I had W3 Total Cache plug in installed for a while but I deactivated it some time last year after reading it’s best not to use it prior to your site being published. I don’t know if this could have done anything, I would have thought so. Really at my wits end.

@samanthawisteria, For now maybe there is another solution. Why do you need access to theme’s CSS, is it because you want to extract styles already there or that you want to add more styles? You can use another plugin to add more styles. You can also use a browser tool like Firebug, or the Developer Toolbar that’s built into Chrome to see what you have in your theme’s css.

@anevins, thanks for your reply. I want access to my theme’s CSS, not to extract what’s there but to make some minor alterations. For eg. I want to add bullet points where there are none and every single time I add a product I have to add several lines of code to the product description in order to get bullet points. I don’t want the CSS closed off from my dashboard. I don’t know why it was closed off. Does using Chrome to see the CSS, give me access to make changes, isn’t that just showing me what it is? the whole thing is still closed off which is infuriating. I just want access to it that’s all. Why should I have to use a plug in to see it? It should be visible?

The culprit is iThemes Security which has lumped in several features under “Security Check” with ONE button that secures the site and changes multiple settings with no boxes to check/uncheck. It has disabled the File Editor in “WordPress Tweaks” and there’s no way to disable this. Configure Settings only has ONE button to “Secure Site” no button to disable this..

No idea how to disable this, unless I disable the plug in completely.

Found it! Under iThemes Security Settings scroll down to “WordPress Tweaks” then Configure Settings from there.
