• Okay, so I have gotten my theme, downloaded it to my computer, set up filezilla, draged and dropped the theme into my theme directory and it doesn’t work (please shoot me know and put me out of my misery).

I uploaded two themes. Vistalicious and Amazing Grace 2.7. Vistalicious gives me the main background screen, my header and a search bar and nothing else. All, I did was drag and drop it so it appears all the elements are there (although obviously I am missing something).

Amazing Grace says that the style sheet is missing. There is an icon that says style.css so I don’t know what else it wants.

Thanks for your advice up to this point (everything I have been told works for one step and then I get stuck so I’m getting closer but I’m not quite there yet).

  • make sure you havent nested the directories inside wp-content/themes/

i go over this in my 2-part tutorial here:

    https://www.village-idiot.org/theme-howto

.. it sounds like something else, but just make sure.

Okay, I have to ask you to speak like a novice for me. I did look at the tutorial (which was very helpful) however the font was small and I could see you talking about nested directories but it was not clear in the tutorial what that was and if I did have it how to fix it.

    Thanks again.

make sure you dont have this

    wp-content/themes/theme-name/theme-name-again/

    or any variation thereof.

its easier for us to look and just tell you.

    where is this wordpress blog?

lbjcfoundation.org – I’ll change it back to the theme I’m having trouble with.

look at the source of that page …

something in your sidebar isnt loading.

disable your plugins, disable any widgets.

    and while im here..

WHY are you running wordpress 2.0.2?

    please, please explain?

are you aware of the fact that your site is exploitable using nothing more than google and some quick copy and pasting????

that MIGHT even be your problem.

it might also be that youre trying to use a theme that doesnt support the archaic version of wordpress you’re choosing to use.

My cable modem went down at home so now I’m in the office.

This is the word press version I started with and I never changed it. I can’t get my members to look at the sight half the time so I was not really worried about hackers either.

I don’t suppose you have a tutorial on upgrading wordpress before I start changing widgets and plug ins?
