I got around it by just filling out the comment form like everyone else instead of replying from my Dashboard or while logged in to WordPress.

They’ve probably set a special style rule for you as the post author.

If you still want to be able to log in and comment as the post author without the background, check your style.css file for any references to .bypostauthor and see how they’re styling that class.

sixhours hit it on the head. Authors get a special background that mark them as authors. To remove this, you’ll need to tweak /wp-content/themes/adventure-journal/style.css or create and upload an override stylesheet.

Easier way just in case someone else needs this is: Log into your wp-admin. Press –>All posts –> hover over the post name –> click quick edit –> on the far right there should be a check box where is says: Make this post sticky un-check that it will get rid of the crumbled paper.
