I’m building a custom theme based on the _s theme, and I’m not really sure how to go about re-incorporating page templates into the theme. The introduction clearly states these have been removed, and while I’m learning as I go along, I don’t even know where to start when it comes to adding that functionality back in.

I don’t necessarily need the drop-down menu in the page creation part of the Admin (but adding that wouldn’t be a bad thing as we may make use of it in the future as the website grows). I really just have three custom pages: the home page, a custom post type, and then there’s a standard info page layout. Is this something I could just call up in the page template itself with conditionals or is there a better method?

Any guidance would be helpful. Sorry I don’t really have a link; my website creation is internal for this contracting job.

Maybe start from a child theme so you can manipulate/change/add functions rather than creating from scratch.

Yep. I realized I was just thinking the functionality was absent entirely. Once I started creating templates for myself and giving them names, everything worked out.

I think the phrase “page templates not included” threw me off. It wasn’t that they weren’t supported, just that there were no pre-made templates to choose from.

    Duh!
