• My website’s theme name is Elegance. I believe this theme is originated from Twenty Fifteen, and don’t know the reason it was given another name. My questions are:
    1. Which one should be the default theme?
    2. If I make changes to Twenty Fifteen, would this change or affect mine (Elegance)?
    3. I’ve noticed that Elegance does not have “Functions.php” file whereas Twenty Fifteen has. I wish to make a change to the functions.php so that I can include a script for Google reCaptcha. Would this be effective?

I would appreciate a detailed explanation. Thank you.

  • Your website’s developer chose to duplicate the version of the Twenty Fifteen theme available at the time (version 2.4, released 2nd January 2019) into a separate folder, gave it a new name, and customized it for your website…. rather than following the recommended route of creating a child theme.

From that point onwards, your “Elegance Theme” became an independent theme in its own right (just like any other non-default theme), breaking all functional links with the original Twenty Fifteen theme.

So any change you make in either theme does not affect the other theme at all.

In fact, the Twenty Fifteen theme has been updated multiple times (now at version 3.2), while your “Elegance Theme” is frozen with the 2.4 files that were duplicated.
