I want to track Youtube video events. Mainly:

    Video Category: video
    Video Action: The video title
Video Label; Video status (least important. It could be the video ID)
Video value: Video Percent (The most important variable.)

    I read the page: https://gtm4wp.com/how-to-articles/how-to-track-embedded-media-players-youtube-vimeo-soundcloud/.

But Youtube has their own built in video variables with more features that I can activate by just selecting the a checkbox and it also has it’s own built in “youtube” trigger. I tried to use those as described here: https://youtu.be/-_sbCHBVjzA but none of the variable, or events are triggered. If I add the datalater you mention, then I see the triggers activated during GTM preview, but your solution doesn’t provide the Media Percentage feature.

Any way we can use the built in youtube variables and triggers?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi,

The native YouTube trigger uses different GTM variable names as my plugin. You can not combine the two solutions. If you are using tracking provided by my plugin, you will need to create your own GTM variables based on the article that you mentioned on my site.

If you start using the native YouTube trigger of GTM, you can use the built in variables provided by GTM.

Hi, First, let me say that your plugin is a great plugin. Thank you!!

I’m writing this reply to help others who read my post.

Originally, I had selected the “YouTube video events” checkbox in your wordpress plugin.

But when I tried to use the built-in GTM youtube trigger and variables, they weren’t firing. Not sure if it was a bug on my site. But when I unchecked the “Youtube Video Events” and recreated the tag with the built in youtube variables and triggers, it worked.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks again. Happy new year.
