• You are going to think I’m nuts, but if I type the word complexity and try to update a post or a page it takes me to a 404. It took me two hours to debug but now that I’ve tested it I’m certain of it. Note that the problem only arises on one of my sites so I’m going to do some digging to see if some plugin might think it’s a shortcode.

Has anyone else had this problem?

  • That’s a very strange, and very uncommon problem. I have never heard of it before.

If you think that it has something to do with a shortcode, are there any shrotcodes on the pages that you’re trying to update? That would at least point to what shortcode it might be.

If not, the standard and best way to debug issues like this is to disalbe all (yes all) plugins, and revert to a default theme (Twentyfourteen or so) and see if the issue still happens. If it is fine there you can re-enable to plugins one-by-one and check each time to see if the same thing happens. That will show you which plugin or theme is causing it to happen, and you can work on the authors of that plugin/theme from there.

Thanks catacaustic. I was planning on doing the disable all test. Will revert with results.
