• Today I attempted to upload a PDF to Media and received the following error message: The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2020/06

I have been uploading files for several years and have never encountered this problem before. What can I do to correct this error?

Help and instructions are greatly appreciated!

Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

Thank you for the info. New to WP…how do I change the permissions?

I’m a bit confused. We access WordPress via the internet and I don’t have the directories noted on my hard drive, so I don’t know where to access them to make the changes.

Contact your hosting provider, they should be able to assist you.

    Step one:
Login to your cpanel: https://yoursite.com/cpanel [You may need to contact your hosting provider for the login credentials.

Step two: Go to > Public > wp-content > uploads > 2020 (Right click on the 2020 folder and change permission to 0777 (by checking all the write and read fields).

Step three: Open the 2020 folder you will find a folder named 06 in it. Delete that folder.

Step four: Head back to your WordPress site dashboard and try to re-upload the image.

    I hope this helps
