    Hi,

This message means that the image sizes created by WordPress is not present. To avoid creating useless images, the retina plugin only create them if the WP image size has been created. Why is has not been created? I don’t know… but that was like this before the retina plugin. Maybe you disabled the creation of those images somehow?

so ive done some tests uploading files with different sizes.

up to 8000 x 5333 will upload and generate retina images for the first 7 sizes but not the last 4 which show the error –

The Full-Size image is too small (8000×5333) and this size cannot be generated.
Please upload an image of at least 10000×6666.

above 9000×6000 the image does not generate any retina images and clicking on details shows errors for all image sizes – The standard image normally created by WordPress is missing.

also in media settings it is all default. the maximum dimensions for large images is set to 1024×1024. not sure if that makes any difference?

The problem here is not the retina part. Whatever you change and check is not going to resolve the issue. Your full-size image is huge, whatever needs to be generated should be generated.

The retina plugin will come later. First you need to fix your WordPress issue and find why the normal images aren’t generated.

I am not sure why your normal images aren’t being generated. Did you check if your image sizes are available when you try to add one in the post?

Can you also make a screenshot of your screen where you see “The Full-Size image is too small (8000×5333) and this size cannot be generated. Please upload an image of at least 10000×6666.”?

Do you know what are those image sizes exactly? Where they are set up? They look exactly the same and huge.

no i dont know what those image sizes are except for what it says there. i dont know where those image sizes came from? perhaps the theme im using? ive just started a new website and im using the x theme by themeco. i thought those images were huge too.

i can ask for support from themeco if you think it is a problem with their theme?

    what else could it be?

It comes from your theme. Could you ask them what are the image sizes used by the theme? They also might have this in the documentation.

    ok i have asked them.

where can i find standards of retina image sizes? i use a macbook pro 15″ which is 2880×1800 native resolution. should this be big enough for the maximum size? what do you recommend?

There is no standards at all, retina images are just twice bigger than normal ones. So whatever the standards was for your website, it is the same x2 ??

I don’t think you want to have you image in full screen in retina but if you want that you will need to have a 2880px width photo.

here is what theme co said – https://theme.co/community/forums/topic/wp-retina-2x-image-sizes-error/

i still dont understand why it is asking me to upload an image of 10000px. it seems completely pointless as it’s way too large

I don’t see on that post the dimensions of the image sizes defined by the theme. It would be good to ask them what they are, and from there we will have a better idea.
