    The subscribers role still needs to be able to view and add posts to be able to use NextCellent. Normally one would use Author or Contributor for these capabilities.

    Thank you for answering so quick.

    So it seems that ability is given by role type, not by capabilities.
    Our solution uses users as Subscribers with enhanced capabilities, due to a Role Scoper plugin schema.

    I’ve looked it up in the source code, and NextCellent requires 2 things:

    1. First it checks to see if the user can edit posts AND pages
    2. Secondly it checks if the user can use the NextCellent capablity called ‘NextGEN Use TinyMCE’
