• Hi all,
i’ve been so happy with WordPress and all it’s options, themes and plugins and the frequent updates, but i noticed none of my WP sites do well in Google searches, despite all the SEO stuff done.

So i started to read around .. and i come again and again to one point, “First things first: page speed is a ranking factor. All other things being equal, the site that loads quicker will outrank a competing site, hands down.” (quotted from an article at link-assistant.com – but can also be found mentioned on so many other SEO blogs).

So i started trying this, i have now some wp sites that have nothing else but core WP and a mobile friendly theme and i have others that use lots of plugins and CSS hacks for the theme etc. and than i use Google’s mobile friendly to see how long it takes Google to render the page.
Sure, the site with only a theme and not a single plugin is way faster done than a site with some heavy stuff like a shopping cart plugin, but now i test also some plain static HTML sites of mine …

Holy banana, some of my old pure HTML sites are done and checked by Google mobile friendly in an awesome hurry (but yes, they also load instantly in any browser), they are all not exactly mobile friendly.

Now back to a clients WordPress site, medium use of plugins, all up to date otherwise, but here again the same trouble, WordPress sites start the big G analysis at okay speed, but come 65 or 70% things slow down drastically and come 80 to 85% the process is so slow you have to wait for each next % to be done, just way to slow to fit into big G’s big plans anymore??

Okay, it is possible that this tool just runs faster because it has already detected enough mobile unfriendly stuff to end the process, i am not sure, but anyway, the question is open, is WordPress fast enough loading now that loading speed becomes an SEO top target??

    Oh, i just checked
    https://www.google.de
with their mobile friendly tool, same result as with my static html sites, it runs fast to about 50% and than ULTRA fast to the finishing line, in other words, there’s to much “stuff” that has to be rendered with WP sites for sure!
