Hello @sellassie thanks for getting in touch. Sorry to hear that you are encountering this issue.

Could you please try going to your Site Kit dashboard if possible and from the top right corner select to disconnect your account.

Once you disconnect the account could you try the setup once more and let me know if that makes any difference?

If you are still facing issues after this then could you please provide the following:

A screenshot of this error, along with any console errors that appear on the same page. You can use a service such as Imgur to share this.
At what point during setup does this error occur (ie. After clicking on the sign in with Google button)?
What is your current location? I ask as I’m aware that AMP, which is used during the setup process is restricted in some regions.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

@adamdunnage I am in Ghana. I have tried all the options you gave. Only that I am not familiar with Imgur, however, I have signed up trying to study it.
The fact is that the site was showing ads before I tried to reset the google site kit because of some error code.

@adamdunnage The problem occurs after I click on the “sign in with Google” button

@sellassie Thanks for trying the steps and for the information. Can I just confirm that the issue was with your ads on your site? You then tried to reset your Site Kit which is when you had this error is that correct?

If possible it would be very useful if you could share any screenshots or recordings of this happening.

When resetting your Site Kit how did you perform this? Did you follow these steps to reset?

Could you also share your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for your concern, I mean there was an error code on the site kit dashboard on my website, which made it immposible to see the data in terms of audience, monetization and analytics on the dashboard, even though the ads were showing on thye website. Thinking that it had to do with the site kit plugin, I decided to reset the plugin.

No, I did not follow these steps to reset.
There was a button on the site kit dashboard labeled “Reset Site Kit”. I clicked on that button Then it removed the plugin and then asked me to set up site kit again. It was after I clicked on sign in with google that I started experiencing thi problem.
Unfortunatley, I am unable to share the screen shots. I have them anyway, but I dont know how to share it on this platform for you to see

@sellassie thanks for the additional information that’s very helpful. You can share a Google Drive link here containing your screenshots or you can use a service such as Imgur as mentioned above.

Can I also just double check that you tried going to your Site Kit dashboard and from the top right corner selected to disconnect your account? Once disconnected could you try to setup Site Kit and sign in with your Google account once more.

Concerning the last suggestion, I can not even access the site kit dashboard on my site.

Many thanks for the update @sellassie, the screenshots are very useful. It sounds like there may be something at host or at local level blocking setup. To firstly rule out any browser related blocks can you attempt setup from a Chrome browser incognito window?

If the same occurs please share any browser console errors that appear on the same screen where you encounter the “The request to the authentication proxy has failed” error. We then then work on ruling out any possible plugin or any hosting environment related blocks.

@dcr20854 Can you attempt the same? If you encounter the same error once more please open an individual support topic and we can communicate and work with you from there. Thank you!

    cURL error 7

Hi @sellassie! cURL errors are result of a misconfiguration at the hosting level, so you’ll need to communicate with your hosting provider or check your hosting configurations to ensure that your site can communicate successfully with https://sitekit.withgoogle.com. Let us know how things go with your hosting provider and if there’s anything else that we can help with. Thanks!
