• I had utilized “genesis” as a parent theme and was not happy with how it worked so I deleted it and installed another. Now, my new theme is designated as a “child theme” and is still refering to the missing parent theme. Novice needs help.

  • If you want to make your previously-child theme now just a theme without a parent, edit your style.css file at the root of your theme’s directory. At the top, there should be a comment. Look for the line that reads Template: genesis (or the line that begins with “Template”). Just delete that line ??

    For more information on child themes, check this out:

    (After you modify style.css, you may have to switch themes and then switch back to your theme before the errors go away.)

    Thank you. I looked at the stlye.css file and found nothing that referred to “genesis”. Here is what I found:
    /*
    Theme Name: Minimal
    Theme URI: https://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/
    Version: 3.8
    Description: 2 Column theme from Elegant Themes
    Author: Elegant Themes
    Author URI: https://www.elegantthemes.com
    */

    I have now installed another theme and reverted back to the one I want. I’ll follow up with a progress report. p.s. I first found the issue when I was unable to change the background for the site.
