The original language home page disappears after installing polylang

Hi,
I had my website set up in English, after installing polylang I have added Italian as a second language, did all page translations myself and have set a home page as a static page. When I now go to mywebsite.com it straight away open in Italian home page (with a slug from Italian home page), but the English (original) page is not showing up anywhere on the website. Even when I click on the English language switcher, it still redirects me to the Italian page.
Can someone please help and advise if I have done something wrong or if it is issue with polylang?
