    Hello everyone, how are you?

Today, I am going to discuss the new Contest mode from your plugin.

I use the CookiesYes plugin for my banner (it has been very useful).

Now, they have released an update that can connect to your plugin and work together with your GCM.

However, the problem is that there is no way to verify if it is working.

If I use the GCM with the CookiesYes plugin, you can trigger the Google tags beforehand and see that it actually works:

    https://ibb.co/GdGWH5x

But with the SiteKit plugin, it is not possible to verify if the GCM is working properly.

Is there a way to check if it is working correctly?

Maybe you could add an option to the plugin to check things like this (similar to the GCM Checker):

    https://www.cookieyes.com/google-consent-mode-checker/

I think it would be very useful.

    Regards,

    Nadav

Hello @123nadav and thanks for getting in touch regarding consent mode. At this time, when using the consent mode option within Site Kit, we recommend using one of the following 2 cookie and consent management plugins:

This is because these have been tested with Site Kit and we know that these are viable options to use with the Site Kit consent mode option. You can find out more information on Site Kits consent mode and how to set it up here.

The best way to check that everything is configured properly when using the Site Kit consent mode option is to check the realtime data report in your Analytics account to see if data is being tracked.

We are testing with other third party cookie and consent management plugins to see if they work with Site Kits consent mode option but at this time can only recommend the 2 listed in our documentation shared above.

With regards to having a check in Site Kit to see if this is configured correctly, I think that’s a great idea and it is one I can certainly pitch to the team to see if this is something we can add to the plugin.

I hope this helps to answer your questions but please do let me know if there is anything else I can help with at this time.

@123nadav Just to follow up on this, you can actually check and verify your consent mode implementation using Google Tag Assistant. To see how you can do this, follow the steps in this guide.

I install it, but what i actully need to see if its working?

@123nadav As mentioned above you should follow the steps in our consent mode guide to ensure you have set up consent mode correctly for Site Kit. We reccomend one of the two listed plugins above for your consent/cookie banner.

To check if your Site Kit consent mode is configured correctly you can do one of the following:

    1. Check that visits are being captured using the realtime data report in your Analytics account. You should see your own site site visit being captured after giving consent when checking from an incognito browser.
    2. Use the?Google Tag Assistant to verify consent mode implementation. See this guide on how to do this.

I hope this helps but let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

    Hey, thanks for your response.

I will start with these two plugins:

    • Complianz | GDPR/CCPA Cookie Consent
    • Cookie banner plugin for WordPress – Cookiebot CMP by Usercentrics

They are not the only major plugins for cookie banners.

I personally use CookieYes. CookieYes connects to the WP API in Consent mode as well.

I did what you suggested with Tag Assistance and Incognito mode, and I see I have both “deny” and “accept” options when I click my cookie banner.

But there still needs to be an easier way to check this through your plugin. It would be much easier and more comfortable for your clients.

@123nadav Thanks for your response. We understand that there are other cookie banner plugins out there but at this time these are the ones we have tested and recommend with Site Kit. That doesn’t mean that others won’t necessarily work but they’re not tested and confirmed by us at this time.

I understand your choice to use a different plugin and that’s your call. It sounds to me as though you have everything set up correctly then if that is the case.

I will be discussing if there is a way we can introduce a check for this in the plugin with the team later today so if there is anything that comes from that then I will update you here.

@adamdunnage thank you, you very kind.

By the way CookiesYes is very famous (Heineken, Toyota, Renault etc…)

    https://www.cookieyes.com/

This plugin is from the majors ones.

Thanks again, you have very good service.

    Regards,

    Nadav.

@123nadav No problem at all. Yes we are aware of the CookieYes plugin and have it on our list of plugins to check with regards to compatibility with Site Kit and it’s consent mode feature.

I have discussed the potential of adding a check to Site Kit for consent mode and at this stage it isn’t something that we are looking to add. That doesn’t mean that we won’t revisit this in the future but in the meantime please use one of the methods I suggested previously to check this which both work.

    Hello @adamdunnage .

So, CookieYes support chack the website, and they say its working.

the only isiue is shows Region “GB” and my website is from the United State:

    https://ibb.co/37hbLw8

I didnt see any option to set up region in the google site kit plugin… so i very confuse right now.

    (@adamdunnage)

@123nadav Glad to hear that. I have taken a look at your screenshot and can’t be certain why you are seeing the “GB” value there. I am GB based here and get the same value but that would be expected for me. It could be some sort of network issue but hard to say. Perhaps you could check from a Chrome Incognito window to see if you get the same?

Ultimately this isn’t a Site Kit issue so we are limited on the support we can offer for this. You may find some more helpful information on this in the below guides:

If there is anything else on the Site Kit side of things that I can help with then please do let me know and I will be happy to help.

You right, i check it right now from Spain and its shows ¨ES¨.

    Its working fine.

I check with Firefox. its easier to debug this isiue.

By the way, cookiesyes plugin just release the support to WP API CONTEST.

Its not showing in the link you sent me.

This from yesterday and i talk with them over the email.
