The more link in a static front page

I have a static homepage where i want to show the excerpts from a category. I am using php the_content(‘more_link_text’, strip_teaser, ‘more_file’); to do that. The problem is that a more link doesn’t show up while the post is indeed cut where is supposed to be (where i inserted the <!–more–> tag in the post’s content). Images in the posts above <!–more–> don’t shop up either. In the category template I’m using the same code – without the query of course – and all works fine. I am sure that I’m missing something here. Please help.
