The login page keeps coming back—cannot login

  • I don’t know if it’s a bug in WP or IE issues.
    I cannot login at all. It comes back into the login page over and over again. I have two windows, one Windows XP, the other Windows server 2003. I just cannot login from both of them using IE. The login page keeps coming back over and over again. Thus I cannot login.

    But when I used Firefox browser, I’m able to login. I imported all the cookies and security settings from IE but Firefox can handle the login.

    I believe majority of people have IE and if I can’t get this working on IE, my blog gets almost useless. Please, help me on this.

  • Did you recently make any changes to WP, like an upgrade or a plugin? Is this a fresh install?

    It’s not clear from your post — have you tried to login to WP with both versions of Windows?

    It might just be a cookies setting. You need cookies enabled to be able to login.

    I was going to echo the same thing: you should check your security settings in IE, as they tend to be ‘overzealous’. Between cookies and other security settings (sending referrers, etc.), there’s a number of reasons why IE might have problems and FF not…

    This is my fresh installation.

    And yes, I tried to login with both versions of windows.
    The security settings in WinXP is very low though with no firewall or virus software. This is my second time of fresh installation of WP with the same problem from different computers. The first being last year…

    If IE is causing a lot of troubles, is there any way to get tolerance of the picky IE by some settings in WP 2.0?
    I hope future versions of WP be friendly to any kind of windows settings. I really do hope. I tried with various security settings. I just cannot login from IE. And I see a lot of people with login problems similar to mine. It’s too silly to have my users correct their IE settings just to login.

    Any settings from my WP side to get tolerance from the picky IE? Any comment on WP settings will be greatly appreciated.

    I have to say I don’t understand why it’s not letting you login, it does seem very strange.

    I don’t think that there are any settings you can change to make it work. It seems more likely that this is being caused by a bug in wordpress itself.

    Do you know how many IE users are affected? Is it all of them?

    But it’s definately WP issue and I hope WP realize that.

    You could help WP by reporting it as a bug, that way you can be sure they will realise it ??
