The latest version will cut the title

Titles that used to be too long in the past will be shortened after being updated to the new version. SEO leads to a decline in rankings. How to solve this problem? Is there any way to adjust the length of the headline crawled by SEO?

Yoast SEO should stop arbitrarily changing any content
The title SEO of each article is set
But because of the update to the new version, Part of the title was deleted from the search

Once the title changes due to the upgrade, it will cause the SEO search ranking to drop`

yeah I upgraded from 15.2 to the latest version
I found that only 20 words need to be entered in the title, the SEO status will show a green light
But in the previous version, even if you enter 60 words in the SEO title, the prompt will be a red light.

This means that Yoast SEO now think that the title only needs 20 words or less. This is very bad. at the same time It is very unfriendly to languages other than English.

From the old version to the new version of the website will be destroyed SEO optimized title. So my experience tells me to find the most suitable version and never upgrade

Please note that rather than using a character count, Google has a fixed width of 600px for the titles. While your title tags can be long and Google doesn’t have a set limit on the number of characters you can use, there is a limit on what’s visible in the search results. If your title is wider than 600 px, Google will cut it off visually. Here’s a guide: https://yoast.com/page-titles-seo/#h-width-vs-length

We understand that sometimes, it’s tempting to attempt to get all the green lights on the SEO analysis. However, these are general guidelines, not strict rules that will hurt your ranking. If you feel your page is properly formatted and has a good user experience, then these warnings can be safely ignored, and you should not sacrifice user experience to get the green bullet. You can read more about this on this article on our website: https://yoast.com/want-green-bullet-wp-seo/

we are not discussing the same thing at all

The format of the post before upgrading to the new version is
    Title-Separator-Site Title

but after upgrading to the new version, use the PC or mobile to view the POST in the search engine

most of the POST format has changed, only display title

the Separator and the Site Title disappear completely
The reason is that the title is too long but the length does not even exceed 60 words
So the new version modified the display settings of SEO without authorization

Because on a post that has not changed at all, the previous version can be fully displayed, but only the title is displayed on the new version.
This shows that the new version thinks that the current post title is too long and deletes the Separator and Site Title without authorization.

This is a very bad automatic judgment maybe you didn’t find this problem in English, but it is happening in other languages

Then I will talk about the red light or green light for the following reasons

Then I was upgrading from the old version to the new version and the only change I found was

I checked the previous post(in the absence of changes)
SEO title shows red light on old version 15.2
SEO title shows green light on the new version

On the old version 15.2, the complete title setting can be displayed on the search engine

new version, only the title of the post will be displayed (Which leads to the destruction of SEO rankings)

    Hi @kylie12

We just want to make sure we understand what the issue is.

Just to clarify, for one of your posts using Yoast SEO v15.2, you’ve used the following snippet variables in the SEO title in the Yoast SEO meta box:

    %%title%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

But when you updated to the latest version of Yoast SEO v17.3, only the %%title%% appears in the SEO title in the Yoast SEO meta box for that same post?

An update to the plugin shouldn’t automatically change what snippet variables have been entered and would omit the separator and site title. Would it be possible for you to provide us with some example URLs and some screenshots (uploaded on imgur or snapboard.io and link shared here) so we can try and understand this further?

Or do you mean the title that appears in the actual Google search results pages is only showing the title? If so, you can control the <title> tag output in the Yoast SEO plugin, but as to what Google would eventually decide to display our output in the actual search results would still be up to them – https://yoast.com/help/google-shows-different-titles-for-my-site/

There is no problem in the background, but it disappears on the google search engine Show title only

    Hi,

You’ve mentioned that there is no problem in the background. We’re not quite sure we understand. You mentioned in your previous reply that you used the variables of ‘title’, ‘separator’, and ‘site title’, but when you updated the plugin, it removed the ‘separator’ and ‘site title’ variables in the Yoast SEO meta box Google preview.

Without some screenshots or further details (such as specific steps to reproduce), it’s really difficult for us to diagnose and help you with this issue.

Do you mean to say that the issue is actually what title is showing in Google’s SERP? If so, while we can control the <title> tag in the front end page source of that particular page, it is still Google that will be the one to decide what will actually output in the search results – https://yoast.com/help/google-shows-different-titles-for-my-site/
