• The header selection under appearance has asking myself how this looks on an array of devices with their screen resolution differences. The interesting part about the header image is the size.

The circle, diamond, and star actual size is 3200 x 460, yet the upload section below the default images suggest the size 1600 x 230 for as-is. Anything bigger will be cropped.

On top of that, when a -child theme is applied a suggestion size is 960 x 250.

It seems the quality will go down as soon as a user of Twenty Thirteen makes a custom header… Is there a way to add an override cropping to a certain size? I want to create a custom header image as high as the defaults, 3200 x 460.

I could make a custom image at 3200 x 460 and replace one of the image names: star.png for example.

Maybe I am the only one, but it would be nice if there was an image with vertical lines showing how much the canvas will show on the landscape/portrait sides for major devices: iPad (retina), iPhone, Galaxy 3, the Nexus tablet, etc.

  • I have similar problem. Not so much with portable devices as I don’t particularly test the layout on them. However, even standard PC based browsing, there seems to a gross confusion.

As Tryah85 has mentioned, yes I can design/save my image in 3200×460 format and rename/replace it in the source folder. However, that is not the right way to do it. When it says on the header upload page that the image has to be 1600×230 and when I do upload an exact size image, it still crops the image from left and right. Any other dimension image will invoke the crop function when I upload the image. I haven’t found an straight simple way to use my own images for header.

I am possibly missing something but then again, till I know, I won’t get to use my choice of image for header.
