    Hi All,

I installed WordPress 4.1 and installation was correct. But whenever I am trying view the site I am getting the following error:

The file ‘wp-config.php’ already exists. If you need to reset any of the configuration items in this file, please delete it first. You may try installing now.

I don’t have any clue where it comes from or how can I get rid of this. Can anyone please help?

    Thanks in advance.

    Prasun

  • Prasun,

Can you view your site via FTP? If so, look for duplicate wp-config.php files, maybe?

Presumably that wp-config.php is still the root directory.

Thanks for your kind help. The problem is there is another WordPress website running on Root Directory. So obviously there is one wp-config.php in the root directory.

I am installing fresh WordPress in a subdirectory. I’ve done this before in other server and it was running perfectly there. Not sure what actually is the problem.

The problem is there is another WordPress website running on Root Directory.

that explains. The one in subdirectory is read the one in the root – the directory above your WordPress install. In fact wordpress let you move your config.php the directory above your WordPress install

possible workaround I can think of:
    – move the other WP from root install to its own directory.
    – or, move the config.php that belongs to the root install to the directory above it. Then the other WP that you have already installed may stop reading the other config.php

I have the same problem with 4.3.1. installed in a sub-directory. However I don’t have a WP install in my root directory, only a dummy index.html file.
I have only one wp-config.php file.
I can view my other pages, its only when I attempt to load my hom epage do I get this error.
