• The direction for the FB plus-in say that:

“Both the feedburner plugin and the instructions below will only work if you already have an .htaccess that is created/modified by wordpress via the Permalink/mod-rewrite option.

If you have index.php in your permalink structure you have to use this hack (https://fredfred.net/skriker/index.php/feedburner-with-wordpress-without-htaccess/). ….”

I have no idea what this means. owe can I check this and doesWP have some sort of default? I am having problems with my feed not updating anywhere and would like to try the plugin as a start.

    Thanks.

  • .htaccess is a file in the root directory (in this case) of your WordPress installation.

Many FTP clients will not show the file because they consider it hidden. I would search for instructions on showing hidden files in whatever FTP client you use. Then you will see it there.

Most FTP clients will also let you set file permissions using CHMOD. You just need to make sure the file is set to allow write access. This is so the plugin will be able to write to it.

As far as the hack mentioned, that only applies if you actually have “index.php” as part of your permalink structure, meaning that it is in your links.

If “index.php” is not visible in the URL on your pages, this does not apply to you.

Thanks — I do have an htacess file. I guess I’ll just assume it’s the one WP installed.

My second concern is the part about WP not being at the root folder. I have it installed in its own folder in a subdomain.

That should not be a problem.

Hmm… FB gives me a 404. I see many people have this problem per the developer’s blog (https://orderedlist.com/articles/wordpress-feedburner-plugin/)

The only reason I thought I’d try this is because my blog feed has not updated for a few days — not on Blogline, MyYahoo or FeedBurner. I thought this plug-in might at least help.

Not sure where to go from here but i sure would appreciate ideas ??

I found out what the problem was and all is OK now.
    Thanks!
