• I wrote a little plugin that gives each author the ability to make a post a “feature” and add a preview image and description. These feature posts can then be displayed anywhere in your theme.

An example and a better description of the plugin are here.

It’s in beta format, and I’d love to make it final and get it off of my to-do list. So any help beta testing it would be awesome!

  • I posted the following on your comment page for the plugin but thought it may get an answer here also and help anyone else that may be useing the plugin.

OK, I thought I’d give the plugin a try. Everything seemed to be fine. Uploaded, activated, selected 5 posts to display and inserted the code in my sidebar.

The results can be seen in my sidebar under “Classic Full Throttle.” (https://cranialcavity.net/fullthrottle/wp/)

The only thing displayed is my h2 header and a list of 1 through 5 numbers. In trouble shooting I attempted to place a “description” field in a selected post with no effect on display. (I assume the “description” is like a title attribute for a link)

Secondly, I noted one improvement that should be considered. In selecting the five posts to be highlighted I chose 5 that were spread out over several months.

When going back to check because of the faulty display I had to search through all those posts again, and remember which ones they were.

It would be much easier if a page were added to the admin area with all the selected posts and any configuration for each.

Thanks for your time and look forward to solving this issue.

I posted a reply on the plugin page.

I really like that admin page idea. I’ll have to do that…

Updated with bugfixes, an option to turn randomization off, and a little admin management. Get it here.

Very cool yas — I’d been looking for something like this and the latest version seems to work well (have it set up on a development blog right now).

I just posted a version that supports pages as well, and has a nice DOM live preview of the selected image.

As always, let me know if you have any issues.

    This appears broken in 2.0.2

Ok so maybe it isn’t broken, however I’m getting strange behavior from what appears to be caching.
