The counter seems very low

When I look at stats in my backend, I might see 200 views on a particular post. The counter might say 9 or 10, not the 200. Why? And when I look at total site traffic the numbers for actual visitor and pageview traffic are 10+20 times higher than the plugin is reporting. Thanks!
